Spending time with your partner once you have started a family can be a struggle so we have put together some tips on planning the perfect date night in.

Why A Date Night In?

Finding time when you are able to be alone with your partner outside of work and looking after the children is an effort in itself, but it is something you need to try to do at least once a week.

Keeping your relationship with your partner open and fresh is very important in maintaining not only the relationship but also your mental health and emotions towards each other.

Date nights are something that may start to dwindle away as you have children as it can be difficult finding time, babysitters and money in order to have a proper date night. However this should not deter you from having quality time with your partner.

Why not put the kids to bed and have a date night in at home – just you and your partner.

Decide On A Night For Your Date Night In

The first step is to decide on the night when you will be having your in home date night.

Choose a night when you or your partner will have an easier day at work or home and when you do not have anything important on the next day. By doing this you are able to enjoy the night without being too tired from the days activities and you do not need to rush to finish it and go to bed before the next days activities.

Organise The Kids

If you are lucky enough to have a grandparent or family member who can look after the kids at their house for the evening than jump on it.

If you do not have family or friends around who can babysit, never fear – you can still go ahead with your date night.

You can start your date night a little later in the evening once the kids have had their dinner, baths and are tucked into bed.

You can have dinner with them before they go to bed or you can eat, just the two of you after they have gone to bed for the night.

After Having a Baby is it normal to

Decide On What To Eat On Your Date Night In

There are many different options on what you can eat during your date night in. You can choose to cook a full course meal, have a range of different nibbles or you could order in take away so that you are not having to spend your night in the kitchen.

Make sure you think about the food in advance so that you can buy drinks that will suit the food you are eating – whether they are soft drinks or alcohol there are different things that will pair better with different foods.

Decide On The Nights Activities

Just because you are at home for your date night it does not mean that you have to just sit around and not do anything exciting. It is a time where it is just the two of you, so make the most of it.

There are so many different things you can do from home for your date night including; board games, movies or starting a new hobby together.

You can set up a blanket out in the backyard for stargazing as the night goes on and organise dessert out under the stars.

As the date moves later into the night and the kids are into their dream sleep, you can then think about some activities that may be a little more raunchy or naughty 😉

Remember, just because you are now parents doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun anymore. Just make sure that the kids are not going to wake up anytime soon because that is not what you want!

Just because you are a parent now does not mean that you are no longer able to focus on your relationship with your partner. Becoming a parent can be stressful for everyone involved and it is important that you take the time to spend quality time with your partner and focus on maintaining and building your relationship with your partner.

Date night does not need to be expensive, it is all about the company and not how much money you spend.
